2009 - 2010 OPEN HOUSE

Open house for all grade levels will be held on Monday, August 24, 2009 from Noon until 6:00 PM. Early entrance will not be allowed as teachers wilol be in meetings in the morning and then wiull have lunch before we start Open House.

Students will be able to get their schedules and locker information and visit their classrooms. They will also be able to bring in their school supplies as well as set up their lockers during this time.

At approximately 12:10 pm all sixth grade students and their parents will have an informational meeting in the gymnasium prior to getting their schedules and locker information. 6th graders and their parents should report to the main gym immediately upon arrival. Imporetant information will be shared by the 6th grade teachers at this time for those students who are brand new to Northwood Middle School. They can get their schedules and locker information after this important meeting.

FALL SPORTS INFORMATION

In order for any student to try-out, practice or participate in any school sponsored athletic activity they must have a current physical on record with the school. Physicals are only good for one year so please don't rely on the fact that your child took a physical last year and assume it is still good. Also, don't wait until the last minute to schedule your appointment as I know many kids have missed out on try-outs in the past because they counldn't get in to get their physical.

VOLLEYBALL (7th and 8th Grade)

• Coaches: 7thGrade - (Melissa Miller); 8th Grade - (Shanon Laidig)
• Try-Outs: Monday, August 31st and Tuesday, September 1st (Immediately after school @ 3:30 PM
• Practice Begins: Wednesday, September 2nd from 3:30 - 5 pm

FOOTBALL (7th and 8th Grades)

• Coaches: 7th Grade (Dave Beard & Jeff Petersen); 8th Grade (Ken Kohley & Jeff Sankey)
• Football Equipment Handout & Parent Meetinf: Thursday, August 6th
• Practice: August 10th (3:45 - 6:30 PM)

CROSS COUNTRY (6th, 7th and 8th Grades)

• Coach: 6th, 7th and 8th Grade (Matt Glick)
• Practice Begins: Monday, August 24th from 3:00 - 4:30 @ Emricson Park

CHEERLEADING (7th and 8th Grade)

• Coach: 7th & 8th Grade (Karen Bergren)
• Tryouts and Practice will not take place or start until after we return to school on Thursday, August 27, 2009. but make sure your child gets their physical this summer if they plan to try-out in the fall.

WELCOME

Welcome to the following new and returning teachers ....

• HUI YU - Ms. Yu will be teaching Chinese to 6th and 8th grade students as a part of our World Languages Exploratory Program
• ALICIA WREN - Ms. Wren will be teaching 6th and 7th grade General Music and Chorus at all three levels and will be taking Mrs. Filetti's position as she stays home to care for her children.
• BILL SIMPSON - Mr. Simpson will be teaching 8th grade General Music and be the Director of Bands at Northwood taking the place of Mr. Schilling
• MARCY BUCHANAN - Mrs. Buchanan joins our 8th grade staff ad=nd will be replacing Mrs. Messmer who retired at the end of last year. Mrs. Buchanan joins us at Northwood after spending the last three years teaching science at Creekside.
• GWEN HEYSE - Ms. Heyse rejoins Northwood Middle School after being at Creekside the past 2 school years . She was on the 8th grade team at Northwood during 06-07 school year before moving to Creekside. Ms. Heyse will be taking the job vacated by Mrs. Ostrow teaching 7th grade Language Arts/Literature.
• MARCY WIEBE - Ms. Wiebe wil be joining Northwood after spending the last year at WHS teaching math. Ms. Wiebe will be taking the position that was vacated by Mr. Ory.
• ALBERT GONZALEZ - Mr. Gonzalez will be joining Morthwood Middle School as a recent graduate from Northern Illinois University. He will be working at Northwood two days per week.
• JASON EGGERT - Mr. Eggert will be serving Northwood as our Student Services Favilitator taking Ms. Mahers position Mr. Eggert has 7 years in the ducation field, the last four as a school counselor of a K-8 grade building in Algonquin, Distrist 300.

REGULATION
In an effort to maintain the Northwood gymnasiums, NO food or Beverages will be allowed in either gym. Athletes may bring WATER ONLY to their bench. An eating area near the concession stand will be provided.
