FROM THE DESK OF THE PRINCIPAL.....

The past few weeks have certainly brought about some difficult and stressful times at both Northwood Middle School and throughout District 200 with the multiple bomb threats that have occurred. Although, we continue to work diligently to keep our focus on educating our students it is very difficult for everyone to keep that focus with the safety and security issues that have arisen. However, I would like to personally thank all of our students and parents for their continued support during this difficult time. Without your support and cooperation this would be even more difficult then it has been. I want to reassure you that we are taking this situation extremely serious both within the building and throughout the District. I am confident that through the efforts of the District, local police, teachers and staff that Northwood is a safe place for your children We have implemented new safety measures to continue to assure the safety of our students and as a result of these situations the administration will be taking an even closer look at school and building procedures over the summer. Again, I thank you for all your support during this stressful time.

Educationally Your

Jake Wakitsch

This is a reminder that the Spring Fundraiser with S & S Nursery is in full swing. Any plants, trees, shrubs, mulch or other garden materials purchased from S & S between now and June 15th, Northwood Middle School PTO gets a 10% rebate. Additional Rebate coupons are located in the Northwood Office (check your child's backpack too). If you get to S & S and discover you've forgotten your rebate coupon, ask if they have any at checkout. You are going to buy garden material - why not let your PTO benefit? Also remember to check out www.greenraising.com for all your 'green' needs. Choose Northwood Middle School as the affiliate from the drop-down menu located at the top right hand corner. One last event this year is in need of more volunteer help. The PTO sponsors a reception for the 8th Grade Graduation. The reception will be following the Graduation Ceremony on June 10th. Help is needed before the ceremony to pin corsages/boutonnieres on the graduates and after the ceremony to serve refreshment to the graduates and their families. If you can help, please call Sheila White at 815-337-0116. Finally, a huge thank you to all the Volunteers, Donors, teachers and administrators that made this year's 8th Grade Graduation Dance so spectacular. A special thanks to the planning committee who spent countless hours planning, creating and executing the 'Hollywood' extravaganza. The planning committee included: Kathy Jensen, Cathy DeMartinis, Chantel Madson, Amy Wurtz, LeAnn Belt, Carrie Nordbrock, Sara Sitke and Diana Huntley. Last Day of School

The last day of school for NWMS students will be on Thursday, June 12th. Dismissal time will be at 10 am. 8th grade students are not to attend school on this day. However, they are expected to be present on the 11th of June even though they officially are promoted on Tuesday, June 10th at 7pm

Eighth Grade Promotion

The eighth grade promotion ceremony will take place at Woodstock High School in the main gymnasium on Tuesday, June 10th at 7pm. There will be a reception that immediately follows the ceremony in the commons area at the High School. There are no tickets required to attend the ceremony as the capactiy in the gymnasium is 1800 people. Seating is first come first serve. We ask that you please sit in the bleachers. Some seating will be available on the floor, but we would like to give preference for this seating to those adults who find it difficult to use the bleachers or are physically challenged. A reminder that eighth grade girls are expected to wear nice skirts or dresses (but not prom type dresses). Our eighth grade boys are expected to wear casual slacks such as Dockers and a shirt with a collar. Ties are optional. PLEASE NO BLUE JEANS. In the past we have encouraged parents to take pictures, but we will not stop to take pose pictures. We ask that you do not come down to take a picture until your child is called and that you please return to your seat directly afterwards. Should you wish for a posed picture you will have time after the ceremony in the High School Commons to take those pictures. This is a special ocassion and we ask that parents and guests dress in a manner that is appropriate for the event, that you please remain in your seats during the ceremony and that you not bring young children who require supervision. We are happy to be able to have our eighth grade promotion ceremony in a gymnasium that will allow a greater number of attendees and we look forward to visiting with our eighth grade familias that evening.
