FROM THE DESK OF THE PRINCIPAL.....
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your support of Northwood Middle School throughout this school year. This past year was a big transition for many students, parents, families and teachers with the changing of District boundaries, opening of new schools and the addition of two new administrators to the Northwood family. We have definitely had some ups and downs, but I strongly feel that we made some great strides at Northwood this year and the administration has many changes in the works for next year to continue to move Northwood Middle School in a positive direction. Without the support of the parents and families we would not be able to accomplish the many outstanding and wonderful things that continue to happen on a regular basis at NWMS. This edition of the Warhawk Times includes some very important information regarding Registration, Summer Building Hours, Fall Athletic Programs and Important Dates, Report Cards, PTO Information, and Back to School Open House Dates and Times. Please read through it carefully and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the office at 815-338-4900.
Educationally Your
Jake Wakitsch

Northwood Middle School will be hosting our Back to School Night on Wednesday, August 27, 2008 for all three grades! Doors will open at Noon and the open house will run from Noon until 6:00pm. Students will be able to get their schedule, locker information and visit their classrooms. They will also be able to bring in their school supplies, as well as set up their lockers during this time. At approximately 12:10pm all sixth grade students and their parents will have an informational meeting in the gymnasium prior to getting their schedules and locker information. Important information will be shared by the 6th grade teachers at this time for those students who are brand new to Northwood Middle School
Start of School Building Hours
School will officially start on Tuesday, September 2nd at 8:30am. The first day of school is a normal day with dismissal at 3:30pm. For safety and security reasons and teacher contract hours the NWMS doors are open from 8am until 4pm daily during the school year. Students are allowed into the building at 8am, but must report directly to the cafeteria where they will be supervised until 8:20am when a bell will ring allowing them to go to their lockers and first period class, which starts promptly at 8:30am. Any student arriving at school prior to 8 am must wait outside in the front of the building until the doors open. Parents needing to get into the building prior to 8am must be buzzed into the building at the main entrance and then come to the office. After school students are released at 3:30pm and the doors remain open until 4pm. The main office secretariesâÄô day ends at 4:00pm and the doors are locked at this time for safety and security reasons. Buses typically pull out of the parking lot between 3:38 and 3:40pm. Breakfast is served daily in the cafeteria from 8am until 8:25am for those students wanting something to eat. They can pay for breakfast with their ID card (deposits must be made into childâÄôs account) just as they do for lunch.
